What is Uni-Otic Ear Drops?
Chloroxylenol is an antibiotic. Antibiotics fight bacteria in your body.
Pramoxine is a skin anesthetic. It is used to reduce itching and pain caused by ear infections.
Together, chloroxylenol and pramoxine are used to treat infections in the ears.
Uni-Otic Ear Drops may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.
What is the most important information I should know about my Uni-Otic Ear Drops?
Do not use the medication in your eyes or take it by mouth. Uni-Otic Ear Drops is for use in the ears only.
Notify your doctor if burning or itching occurs or if your condition does not improve.
Who should not use an Uni-Otic Ear Drops?
Do not use Uni-Otic Ear Drops if the ear drum (tympanic membrane) has ruptured (broken). It is dangerous for medicine to get into the inner ear. A ruptured ear drum usually causes a considerable amount of pain. A decrease in hearing may also occur. Call your doctor if you suspect a ruptured ear drum. Your doctor will know if the ear drum is ruptured by looking into your ear with a special device.
Do not use Uni-Otic Ear Drops without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant.
Do not use Uni-Otic Ear Drops without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding.
How should I use my Uni-Otic Ear Drops?
Use Uni-Otic Ear Drops exactly as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these instructions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you.
Do not use the medication in your eyes or take it by mouth. Uni-Otic Ear Drops is for use in the ears only.
In general, Uni-Otic Ear Drops should be used as follows:
- Have another person administer the drops whenever possible. Thoroughly clean the external ear and the ear canal of the affected ear(s).
- Lie on your side or tilt your ear up to make administering a drop easier.
- For adults, hold the earlobe up and back. For children, hold the earlobe down and back. This will allow the drops to run into the ear canal. Carefully instill the prescribed number of drops in each ear.
- Keep the ear tilted for approximately 5 minutes. A cotton or gauze plug may be inserted into the ear canal to contain the medication if directed by your doctor.
- Alternatively, a cotton or gauze plug may be inserted into the affected ear(s) before using the drops, and moistened with a few drops of sterile water. Then, the plug may be saturated with Uni-Otic Ear Drops, and drops should be repeated as prescribed without removing the plug. The plug should be replaced after 24 hours.
Use all of the medication that has been prescribed for you. Your symptoms may improve before your condition is completely treated. If you do not use all of the medication prescribed, the condition could return or worsen.
Notify your doctor if burning or itching occurs or if your condition does not improve.
Store Uni-Otic Ear Drops at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Keep the bottle properly capped.
What happens if I miss a dose?
Use the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and use only your next regularly scheduled dose. Do not use a double dose of Uni-Otic Ear Drops unless otherwise directed by your doctor.
What happens if I overdose?
Seek emergency medical attention.
Symptoms of a Uni-Otic Ear Drops overdose are not known.
What should I avoid while using this medication?
Ear infections may sometimes cause dizziness or a loss of balance. Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities if you experience dizziness or a loss of balance.
