What is Citrucel Food Pack?

Citrucel Food Pack is a bulk-forming laxative. Methylcellulose absorbs liquid in the intestines and makes a bulky, softer stool which is easier to pass.

Citrucel Food Pack helps relieve constipation and to maintain regularity.

Citrucel Food Pack may also have uses other than those listed in this product guide.

What is the most important information I should know about Citrucel Food Pack?

Do not use Citrucel Food Pack without first talking to your doctor if you have stomach (abdominal) pain, nausea, vomiting, or difficulty swallowing.

Taking Citrucel Food Pack without enough liquid may cause it to swell in the throat and cause choking.

If you experience chest pain, vomiting, difficulty swallowing, or difficulty breathing after taking Citrucel Food Pack, seek immediate medical attention.

What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking Citrucel Food Pack?

Do not take Citrucel Food Pack without first talking to your doctor if you have

  • stomach (abdominal) pain, nausea, or vomiting;
  • difficulty swallowing; or
  • intestinal obstruction or fecal impaction.
  • You may not be able to take Citrucel Food Pack or you may require special monitoring while taking methylcellulose if you have any of the conditions listed above.

    Each level scoop of sugar-free Citrucel Food Pack powder contains 52 mg of phenylalanine. Individuals with phenylketonuria may need to monitor their intake of this additive.

    Talk to your doctor before taking Citrucel Food Pack if you are pregnant or breast-feeding a baby.

    How should I take Citrucel Food Pack?

    Take Citrucel Food Pack exactly as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you.

    Take Citrucel Food Pack capsules with a full glass (at least 8 ounces) of water or another liquid.

    Mix Citrucel Food Pack powder with at least 8 ounces of water or another noncarbonated beverage. Mix briskly and drink promptly.

    Taking Citrucel Food Pack without enough liquid may cause it to swell in the throat and cause choking.

    If Citrucel Food Pack has produced no effect within one week or if rectal bleeding occurs, stop taking methylcellulose and contact your doctor. Do not take more methylcellulose than is recommended or for longer than one week except under the direction of your doctor.

    If you experience chest pain, vomiting, difficulty swallowing, or difficulty breathing after taking Citrucel Food Pack, seek immediate medical attention.

    Store Citrucel Food Pack at room temperature away from moisture and heat.

    What happens if I miss a dose?

    Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take only the next regularly scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose.

    What happens if I overdose?

    Seek emergency medical attention if an overdose is suspected.

    Symptoms of a Citrucel Food Pack overdose are not known.

    What should I avoid while taking Citrucel Food Pack?

    There are no restrictions on foods, beverages, or activities during treatment with Citrucel Food Pack unless otherwise directed by your healthcare provider.

    What are the possible side effects of Citrucel Food Pack?

    If you experience any of the following uncommon but serious side effects, stop taking Citrucel Food Pack and seek medical treatment or contact your doctor immediately:

    • an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives)
    • chest pain
    • difficulty swallowing
    • rectal bleeding; or
    • severe abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting.

    Citrucel Food Pack can interact with other medications. Before taking methylcellulose, talk to your doctor if you are taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicines. You may not be able to take methylcellulose, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring if you are taking any other medicines.
