Macular Degeneration

Macular Degeneration is an incurable eye disease which affects over 10 million Americans, the leading cause of blindness in Americans age 55 or older. Macular degeneration is characterized by a deterioration of the macula, or the central portion of the retina which is responsible for recording images and relaying them to the brain via the optic nerve. The macula also focuses central vision and controls reading and driving ability, recognition of faces and colors, and ability to observe fine details in objects.
