A sleep disorder - where a person has difficulty falling asleep.Insomnia is a common sleep disorder characterized by difficulty falling asleep. A person experiencing insomnia may also wake up repeatedly during the night. There are two types of insomnia: Primary and secondary. With primary insomnia, a person will find difficulty sleeping without having any other pre-existing health conditions. Secondary insomnia occurs when a person has difficulty sleeping due to other health conditions. One can experience acute (short-term) or chronic (long-term) insomnia symptoms. For those experiencing secondary insomnia, treating the underlying conditions leading to sleeping difficulty will treat the insomnia.
