Infertility
Infertility involves a person's inability to produce children. Currently, a little over 6 million Americans are experiencing infertility. If a couple unsuccessfully tries to conceive children for more than 1 year, one of the partners within the couple may be considered infertile. Although infertility may affect both men and women, it is more common among women. Nearly a quarter of all infertility cases are the result of unknown causes. For men, chromosomal abnormalities may be the cause behind infertility, and in women, ovulation disorders are the most common culprit. Infertility can most often be treated with prescription drugs and surgeries, though there are some cases that are incurable.
