Hyperthyroidism
Hyperthyroidism is a condition characterized by an overproduction of the thyroid hormone, causing it to spill into the body's blood stream, which can speed up metabolism and lead to overactivity. The thyroid is located in a person's neck and regulates the body's metabolism. Those with hyperthyroidism are also commonly diagnosed with the autoimmune disease, Graves' disease. Weight loss, tremors, and rapid heartbeat are symptoms of hyperthyroidism. Additionally, inflammation of the thyroid may lead to this condition. Medicines, radioactive iodine, and surgery may treat hyperthyroidism.
