Epilepsy
Epilepsy is a disorder of the brain, resulting in a person experiencing multiple seizures. These are caused by a rapid increase in the electrical signals of the brain. Epilepsy is not contagious, and although it is a seizure disorder, not all seizures are caused by epilepsy. Status epilepticus, an epilepsy-related seizure that occurs for longer than five minutes, can be fatal, and therefore epilepsy must be taken seriously. Often, these extended seizures will occur after an epilepsy patient has stopped taking their anti-seizure medications. Therefore, it is important for a person with epilepsy to seek treatment and act responsibly by taking proper prescription drugs regularly.
