Eating Disorders

Eating Disorders are conditions characterized by a person who will eat either an excess or insufficient amount of food to the detriment of their own physical health. To eat an unhealthy excess of food is called "binge eating". Anorexia and bulimia are the two most common eating disorders. Anorexia involves a person starving themselves, while bulimia is marked by a person's binging and purging food (to eat excess quantities of food and then forcibly vomit). A distorted personal image and environmental pressures (wanting to fit in socially, sports activities, etc.) may lead to eating disorders. Therapy and counseling are the best route for treating these conditions.
