Bronchitis

Bronchitis is a condition that is often virally contracted (though it can also be caused by bacteria), wherein the body's bronchial tubes become inflamed. Among infants, the respiratory syncytial viruses (RSV) can lead to the inflammation of the small bronchi and bronchioles, which is referred to as bronchiolitis. A person is diagnosed with chronic bronchitis if they experience constant coughing for several months. This is usually associated with tobacco use. Steroid therapy, involving prednisone, as well as medicines like ibuprofen (to diffuse fever and maintain comfort levels,) are common treatments for bronchitis.
