Vigor-25 contains the active prescription medications ingredient found in Viagra. Sold as a natural dietary supplement to improve sexual performance for men, the product contains the ingredient known as sildenafil; as such, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning against the purchase or use of Vigor-25.
Manufactured and sold by Piston Corporation, Vigor-25 is largely sold via the Internet. According to Deborah M. Autor, FDA Director of the Office of Compliance, “Tainted products place consumers at risk of injury and death.” When sildenafil combines with nitrates, most particularly nitroglycerin, the resulting effect can be to reduce blood pressure levels to dangerous lows. In fact, the FDA is reviewing the death of a 26 year-old man who had been known to take sildenafil.
The FDA is reminding consumers that multiple products sold as sexual enhancement dietary supplements have been found to contain active prescription drugs ingredients or derivatives of these ingredients. Products most likely to be tainted with active ingredients are those claiming rapid results or long-lasting effects.
FDA Warns Patients Experiencing Prescription Medications Symptoms
The FDA is also encouraging those who have experienced adverse symptoms from sexual enhancement products to stop using, and safely discard the supplement. These negative experiences and harmful side effects of Vigor-25, or other sexual enhancement supplements containing active prescription medications ingredients, should be reported by health care professionals and consumers to the FDA’s MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program (the form can be downloaded at www.fda.gov/MedWatch/ or it can be requested via mail by calling 800-332-1088).
