There once was a day when medication disposal was of the same nature as the goldfish your child won at the school fair - Toss it in the toilet. With environmental concerns arising and prescription drug abuse growing, the Office of National Drug Control released new federal guidelines on proper disposal of prescription drugs in October 2009. Now, the US Fish and Wildlife Service, the American Pharmacists Association and the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America have teamed up on a campaign of medication disposal and drug take back program awareness. The SMARxT Disposal website provides resources to promote the campaign, information about the campaign and participating organizations, FAQ and supporter signup and information.
