Prescription Savings Card There are many programs available that offer a prescription savings card as well as programs for people in need of assistance when it comes to paying for their prescription drugs.  How does one choose the right program?

The first thing a consumer should do is to find the most appropriate program based on individual needs.  It is important to know which medicines prescription the card covers and if the discounts are applicable when associated with in-store sales, generic drugs or other discount programs.  There are also restrictions on the types of drugs offered, time and amount limits, and so on.

Some companies offer their clients discount prescriptions as a benefit of joining a program such as a health insurance plan that does not include prescription coverage.  Other programs and companies may see it as a side benefit for purchasing a product while some stores, particularly department stores and chain pharmacies, may use the card as an incentive to shop in their stores.  How can a consumer know which card to choose?

What to Look for in a Savings Card

First of all, it makes sense to do the math.  If one site offers 50% off on one drug but charges more on other items, it may not make sense to shop at that particular location.  The final choice depends on the needs of the individual, if more than one drug is needed or if convenience is more important than cost.  The ultimate answer is to shop around and if the cards are free, it does not hurt to have more than one prescription savings card in your wallet in case the need arises.
