RX Drugs List Gov. Brian Schweitzer has drafted a proposal that would see cheaper RX drugs list medication available to everyone living in Montana. The proposal will be sent to the Centers for Medicare (CMS) and Medicaid Services.

According to Schweitzer, the cost of drugs has risen exorbitantly during the last decade. His proposal would allow patients to save money on their medication and he also commented that nobody should be in a situation where they are forced to decide whether or not to purchase a drug due to its price.

Reduction in Prescription Costs

Schweitzer’s plan would allow Montana to provide Medicaid program discounts for all patients living in the state. The waiver, entitled Medicaid Part D, would allow the state to negotiate price breaks for everyone on Medicaid, the healthcare program aimed at people with low incomes.

The saving, which amounts to around 55% on the standard retail price, would be available to anyone living in Montana. Schweitzer’s proposal would be an opt-in program among citizens. Those with private insurance that covers prescription drugs would also be able to opt into the program.

If the Montana Medicaid Part D program is approved, it would mark the first such program of its kind in the United States. The cost of prescription medication is increasing every year. Aside from Medicaid programs, patients can also opt for prescription discount cards to level out the cost of increasingly expensive RX drugs list prescriptions.
