Birth Control Side Effects A new report by the FDA shows that the "Morning After Pill" may cause fewer birth control side effects than typical prescription medicine prescribed for the sole purpose of birth control.  The report also shows that the Morning After Pill, which can be used up to five days after intercourse, can also be taken the day before or the day of the encounter.  Some people say that they prefer the Morning After Pill as it has fewer side effects than regular birth control.  However, it is not nearly as effective, as ongoing contraception is not its main goal.  A generic prescription drug list will show that there are numerous types of birth control intended for ongoing use.

Understanding Side Effects of Birth Control Drugs

The side effects for the Morning After Pill are typically mild and can be found on the standard information about prescription drugs enclosed in the package.

Common side effects of birth control include vomiting and nausea.  Anti-nausea medication may be taken before taking the pill.  It is also recommended to take the pill on a full stomach.  Another side effect is irregular bleeding.  Typically a woman will receive her menstrual cycle 7 to 9 days after taking the pill.  If the cycle has not begun in 21 days from the date of treatment, the user should administer a pregnancy test.

Other side effects include:

·       Breast tenderness.

·       Dizziness.

·       Headaches.

·       Etopic pregnancy.

·       Abdominal pain.

·       Fatigue.

Before choosing a specific plan, it is important to know and understand the applicable side effects for each method.
