Resident patients have been provided with free prescription cards, allowing people across the nation to receive significant savings on their medication expenses. These cards are one of the most effective ways to offset the rising costs of drugs and close the donut hole coverage gap to make prescriptions affordable for everyone - even the uninsured. Average savings vary from 10% to 30%, depending on the medication and state, and the type of prescription discount card program being employed.
How Have Prescription Cards Helped?
In September 2010, Washington County reported an average 24% in savings for the first six weeks of its Washington County/Virginia discount program launch. Currently, the cards are accepted in over 60,000 pharmacies and open to all residents, with no restrictions on age, income or existing health coverage.
The state of Florida is eager to enroll registrants in its program with a simple text message sent by mobile phone. Prescription cards are available to anyone who texts FDDCRX to the local number 22700. Over 166,000 members are currently enlisted to take part in the drug savings.
Schuyler residents can now opt into the Proact prescription drug discount card program, accepted by most pharmacies nationwide, and provide patients with savings from 10% to 20% that are redeemable on pet prescriptions.
Lancaster County has reported savings of over $518,000 for resident patients since the program first began, applied across 27,000 prescriptions. Free prescription cards can significantly reduce the cost of medication expenses and pharmaceutical drugs, and look set to become increasingly relevant over the coming months.
